Performance Compensation

Performance Compensation
Larger companies sometimes give employees partial ownership of the firm. The main purpose of this strategy is?

a) increase responsibility, performance, and compensation
b ) eliminate unions
c) convince workers to go along with downsizing
d) eliminate the possibility of lawsuits from workers

This is a good question to answer using the process of elimination. If we had more details, then (b) (c) or (d) could be the answer, but in terms of the general goal of partial ownership, profit sharing, etc., these answers do not apply given that we are speaking in general terms instead of discussing the climate of a specific entity or company.

This takes us down to (a). The general goal of partial ownership plans is to increase responsibility, performance, and compensation with respect to employees.

On a sidenote: Several studies have indicated that in order for employee ownership schemes to have the desired impact they need to be accompanied by provision for worker participation in decision making.
