How do I sue a non UK company in UK?

Ryanair cancelled our return flight from Brno to London Stansted 3 hours after planned departure. We had to book expensive tickets with easyjet as their next day flight was full. They refused to give us EUR 250 per person compensation granted by EU legislation claiming that a technical problem on their plane is out of their control. I tried to take them to small claims court but the claim was rejected as they are based in Ireland (outside UK).

Is there any UK based Ryanair office I can take to small claims court?
What is the other least expensive way to sue Ryanair Ireland?

Thanks for any tips.

If ireland are in the european union, i don’t see why you should not be able to sue them here. There is various eu treaties which allow for the jurisdiction in cases to be heard in the uk, or where the substantial performance was to take. In this case performance was to be completed in the uk? Search for Rome Convention and Brussels II (44/2001) for further guidance this is a tricky area, a decent lawyer should be able to give you an hours worth of advice for a reasonable sum.

Forget EU compensation amount, you should be able to sue for repudiatory breach of contract ie non performance.

The guy above, has a good idea, you could avoid hassle and perhaps claim from your credit card company if the transactions are over £100.
