“Some employee benefits or compensation experience preferred”?
I am a Brit who has recently arrived in the USA and is searching for employment. On many of the job descriptions that I read, this (above) is written. Does this mean that the companies are searching for new employees that have worked in the fields of benefits/compensation, or that they desire folk who have *received* benefits/compensation? If the latter, why is that so crucial?
It means that they offer some benefits or compensation- not just pay – for the work you do.
Also, they would rather hire a person who has some experience doing the job that they are wanting you to do. In other words they would rather not have to train someone that has never done the kind of work before. Many times you don’t have to done the exact job, but you may have done something similar. It could have been in a different situation even to be considered experienced.
It does NOT mean that you need to have experience getting benefits or receiving compensation.
